Thanks for the comments Ali. I just thought I'd add some more thoughts on episode two from Monday.

I did find it funny and generally good although the evangelical vicar taking over the church was a bit of a mess and not very true to life. It was set-up like a Rob Bell style guy and church, but then threw in the prosperity gospel on one hand and an aversion to women and homosexuality on the other. All extreme of course and helpful for the joke but you'll never find that in one person or church in my humble opinion.

The Rob Bell style guys are almost always pro-women, a heavily conservative reading of Scripture doesn't usually end up with prosperity teaching (not in this country anyway)... so while it was funny, it felt like a convenient mish-mash that overall left me a bit flat.

I did cheer tho when the previously odious Archdeacon came through in the clinch. :)

Forgot the footnote to the above. Miles Jupp may have been in the Thick of It, but it's still hard to get Archie from Balamory out of my mind...

Given that the main actors have been in In the Loop/The Thick of It* I was wondering if this was going to be a Malcolm Tucker-styled invective assault on churchdom. I actually thought it was rather well done. I know there is an overarching need in sitcoms to try to overegg the point that the character is "human", and by "human" we mean smokes, drinks and swears, but it does manage to reach beyond that to play to some genuinely human moments, ones that are funny for the right reasons. I agree that the prayer bit is the programme's hit-the-nail-on-head moment.

I'll watch the rest with interest...

Thanks for commenting Martin - good to hear from you.

Well, at the moment, I'm not able to comment on either the iPad as liturgical game-changer or WordLive within that overall framework since I have neither an iPad or WordLive!!

If anyone wants to give me one, I'll happily comment! :D

I do hope to get an iPad but, to be honest, I was wrong-footed by the price. I was expecting something in the £300 mark - not £500 plus.
